What we look for in models vs. creators.
The freshest talent pool – what we look for in models vs. creators (and why they’re completely different conversations)
A rep for range. A track record for results. Here’s what that actually looks like when we’re making signing decisions.
We represent both models and creators at Brooklyn MGMT. And while there’s overlap – professionalism, personality, career ambition – signing one versus the other is a completely different conversation.
Here’s how we think about each.
Signing a model
When we’re looking at a model, we’re thinking about range first. Not just one look, one energy, one category. We want to know: can this person move across e-commerce, campaign, and editorial without losing what makes them interesting?
What we’re looking at:
The folio. Quality, variety, how they hold themselves across different briefs. Is there evidence they can adapt?
Natural features. We’re not looking for a “type.” We’re looking for your type. Filters and heavy editing tell us almost nothing about who you actually are – and that’s what clients are ultimately booking.
Personality. It shows in the images whether you like it or not. Can you be present, take direction, and still bring something of yourself to the shot?
Professionalism. Not just on the big jobs. The e-commerce shoot on a Tuesday matters just as much as the campaign. Can you bring the same energy regardless of the brief?
Your socials. Clients check them before confirming a booking. Your feed is your folio now – if it’s empty or hasn’t been updated in a year, that’s a red flag.
Signing a creator
Signing a creator is a different kind of due diligence. We’re not just looking at a face – we’re looking at a media operation.
What we’re looking at:
Niche clarity. What’s your thing? Really. Not a vague “lifestyle” presence – a genuine area of authority. The creators who cut through are the ones who know their corner of the internet and own it.
Content craft. Can you ideate, shoot, and edit something that actually holds attention? The production bar has risen dramatically. Self-sufficiency is now a baseline expectation.
Engagement quality over reach. 20K genuinely interested people beats 200K passive scrollers every time. We’d rather see a tight, loyal audience than inflated numbers with nothing behind them.
Receipts. Past brand work, engagement rate, content that’s performed – we want evidence you can deliver, not just potential. Show us what you’ve done.
Brand safety. How do you show up online beyond your content? How do you handle feedback? How do you respond to your audience? It all factors in.
Where they overlap
Both conversations come back to the same things: Are you building something? Do you take your career seriously? Can you be a professional on a brief — regardless of what’s on the other end of it?
We don’t sign folios. We don’t sign follower counts. We sign people.
The freshest talent pool isn’t just the best-looking one. It’s the one with the most range, the most craft, and the most room to grow.
